Upcoming National Parents’ Day (the fourth Sunday in July) is the perfect opportunity to show appreciation for au pairs to celebrate their host parents.
Here are seven ways for au pairs to thank their host parents:
1. Take an extra moment to ask your host parents about their day.
Asking your host mom or host dad about their day is an easy yet meaningful way to show that you care.
2. Make a special meal.
Take the opportunity to cook a special treat for your host parents — maybe even a favorite meal that your parents like to make!
3. Offer to babysit (as long as it’s within the 45-hour limit)
Offer to watch your host children so your host parents can have time to go out by themselves. Or, keep your host children entertained in the morning and let your host parents sleep in a little later. (Remember to not work beyond the 45 hours per week limit!)
4. Practice a song with your host children
Teach your host children a sweet song from your home country, or learn one of your host parents’ favorite songs.
5. Write a poem with your host children
Need inspiration? Make the first letter of each line spell out your host parents’ names or spell out “Thank You”!
6. Take a photo of your host children — and make a frame together!
Take a cute photo of your host children and print it out. You can even make a frame for the photo with your host children using simple materials like popsicle sticks, colorful pasta, buttons and ribbon!
7. Make a video or slideshow with your host children
Take some photos of you and your host children doing the fun activities above together and make a simple slideshow. Or, teach your host children how to say “thank you” in your native language and make a video to show your host parents how much you appreciate them!
