This week’s Camp Au Pair theme is Outer Space.

Crafts, recipes, activities and games related to outer space can all be found here on the Camp Au Pair – Outer Space pinboard.

Field Trips can be a great way for kids to learn and have new experiences. Here are a few places to go, that fit this theme:

Webcams – You can do a google search for websites with webcams which allow you to observe space. Here is one from the International Space Station to get you started.

Videos – Look for fun videos on YouTube about outer space like Solar System 101 (for school aged kids) and The Planet Song (for toddlers and preschoolers).

Movies –Common Sense Media’s list of Best Space Documentaries has suggestions for aspiring astronauts of all ages. And their list of Best Space Movies includes WALL-E, Zathura, Star Wars, Hidden Figures, and other suggestions for great movies that fit this theme. (Always check with your host parents first, as some of these movies are rated PG or PG-13.)

Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly

Books – Common Sense Media’s list of books about space recommends many books, including A Wrinkle in Time, I Am Neil Armstrong, Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race and Hidden Figures Young Reader’s Edition.

Stop by your local library and look for these and other books on outer space.
